Artist's Description

Baha'u'llah father dreamed a very strange dream about his son. In the dream, he saw Baha'u'llah swimming in an enormous ocean. His body was shining, lighting up the ocean with a clear white light. His hair was floating out in all directions over the foaming waves. Then, in the dream, millions of fish came, and each fish grabbed the end of one of Baha'u'llah's hairs, and held it tight. Even though there were so many fish, and they were all holding on so tightly, not one of Baha'u'llah's hairs was torn out, and the fish did not bother him at all. He swam freely through the water and all the fish followed Him.
Mirza Buzurg, His father, felt that such an unusual dream must be very important, so he called a famous soothsayer to explain it.
The soothsayer told Mirza Buzurg that in the dream the ocean meant the world. He said that Baha'u'llah, all by Himself, would eventually rule over the whole world.

Sue Podger

Sue Podger is descended from the early Dutch settlers of the Cape of Good Hope, known as Afrikaners. She is the first of this people to become a Baha'i and her maiden surname is Hofmeyr. She was trained at the Michaelis School of Fine Art in Cape Town. An accomplished watercolourist, she uses a range of styles to portray a sensitive and accurate picture of the years when Baha'u'llah was amongst us. The images of one set of her paintings shown on this website were painted for a hard cover book, 'The Incomparable Friend', a history of the life of Baha'u'llah told in stories, which sold out and was out of print for some years. Shirin Sabri, it's author, and Sue, wishing to see it more widely available, have published it as a free...
